New Artist Alert: Dennis Hoshield
We have been good friends with Dennis Hoshield for a long time. He has been rescuing Vivi's computers from all the strange maladies that plague that infernal species for decades. He has worked with Marty's brother at Gaslight Media and has kept the Artists Market's gadgetry humming along and in relatively constant contact with the known universe. Marty has been trying all year to entice Dennis to come out of musical retirement long enough to grace the Red Sky Stage with some oom-pah music.
Meanwhile, Dennis has been working away in his shop and, antler by antler, becoming one of Northern Michigan's best and most creative producer of a variety of intricate craft items in the Bavarian tradition. Dennis' distinctive style includes woodburning, where the wood is cut as much as it is burned, leather work, glass etching, scrimshaw, wood carvings, presentation plaques, and, most prominently hornschnitzerei (deer antler carving). Dennis modestly but accurately claims, "You name it, I can probably craft it. Treu dem guten alten Brauch (True to the good old ways)"
Now Vivi and Marty welcome our friend Dennis Hoshield and his Bavarian craftwork to the Artists Market and invite everyone to see it in our gallery and online webstore. Get ready to be amazed!
Artist Update -- E.P. Lewandowski
A long-time Artists Market favorite, E.P. (Irv) Lewandowski has again received well deserved national, actually INTER-national, recognition for his amazing colored pencil drawings. Irv's work will be featured over the next month or so at the Pencil Art Society International Open Juried Exhibition Quebec, the Ninth Annual International Guild of Realism Exhibition in South Carolina and the Colored Pencil Society of America's Twenty-Second Annual International Competition and Exhibition in Florida. You can read all the details and see pictures of Irv's latest show pieces in our blog.
Fortunately, you can still see lots of Irv's creations right here in Northern Michigan at the Artists Market. Way to go, Irv and thanks for remembering your old friends here in Michigan.
New Artwork Alert:: Rosalyn Tyge
Rosalyn Tyge of Traverse City is an outstanding tile maker. She not only makes great tiles but she makes all kinds of amazing creations out of those tiles including tables, mirrors, coat racks, jewelry and now an all-season Michigan ornament.
Made from ceramic tiles shaped like both the Upper and Lower Peninsulas and decorative beads, this ornament can be hung (on a tree, a wall, or anywhere else) at any time of the year when you want to celebrate Michigan, like today.
