I've decided that it's all about metamorphosis. I started thinking about what attracts me to working with clay and hot and warm glass. Hot glass starts as disparate ingredients that are melted together at high temperature, but becomes quite another object when formed and cooled. Fused glass starts as pieces of the many and ends up as one. Soft clay becomes strong in the heat of the kiln, the powdery glaze coating melting to glass, adding both function and beauty. Just as with life, some things work out and some don't. The pieces that just sing make the ugly ducklings all worthwhile. Either way, there is something to be learned from them all.
