|I started painting as a 12 year old with my first velvet, oil paint by number set. This developed into a fascination with painting everything; pieces of paper, cardboard, scrap wood pieces and and other miscellaneous items I could get my hands on to create a picture.
My first endeavor was with oil paint, I learned to love the medium, the results it could produce and I spent my high school years between homework and painting every night. Try going to classes the next day with a swath of cadmium yellow oil paint on your arm and guess the comments you will receive from your peers! |
When my children were born, I found oil painting and small children were not a good mix, but I continued my art by drawing my children, flowers, trees, building and everything in my surroundings. I also found great pleasure in teaching my children about color and other creative outlets.
Since retirement, I have the time to concentrate on my art and have made a change to watercolor painting. The switch to watercolor paint has been a challenge but I love the process and continue to learn more ways to create with the use of paint and water. The opportunity to work with professional artists in Michigan and Florida has expanded my growth and development of the medium.
Northern Michigan provides a daily opportunity to enjoy God's wonderful gifts by being exposed to a river, trees, fresh air and the beauty of the stars in the dark of night. Everyday when I I walk my dogs I seem to find something new in the way a tree stands, cloud formations, wild flowers, shade in nature, and a color I didn't notice on other walks. The beauty surrounding me inspires me to create and try to express the joy that I have found and hope to share with others through my paintings.
