This may look like a fantasy piece but it's really not. In summer little green tree frogs come out of the Michigan woods and use the centers of daisies like little cushioned ottomans to catch the sun. Some of these frogs only measure 1/2" in length. This piece was painted from several separate reference photos and arranged to look like a quartet of sorts. The background is poured watercolor, the flower stems are transparent watercolor and the daisy petals are heavy body acrylic paint. The little frogs are watercolor that has been given a finishing glaze of metallic fluid acrylic called Halo Blue Gold. This unusual fluid acrylic paint contains very fine particles of metallic green and gold to give them a wet, 'froggy' appearance.
